PRINCIPAL PLANNER

Town of North Kingstown RI seeks an experienced Principal Planner responsible for work involving application of professional planning knowledge and skills as they pertain to municipal planning issues.

Successful candidate performs professional planning work in connection with community and urban planning principals.   Responsible for zoning and commercial development plan review.  Conducts studies and analysis relating to subdivision and site plan review, historic districts, ordinance and land use regulation writing, with strong emphasis on zoning review, administration and enforcement.  Responsible for grant application, grant administration and grant management.   Liaison to boards and commissions.  Attendance at night meetings is required.

Masters degree in Community Planning is preferred. Interested candidates should have two years experience in municipal government or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Desirable computer skills include: ESRI ArcView & Microsoft 2000 or XP & Office 2003.  Certification from American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is desirable.

 TEMPORARY SEMI-SKILLED LABORER

$10.00 - $11.50 per hour Applications are now being accepted by the Department of Public Works, 2050 Davisville Road, North Kingstown, RI, from students age eighteen (18) or older to assist with summer operations in its Facilities and Highway Divisions during the months of May-September.

To be qualified, individuals must be a Rhode Island resident enrolled in an academic program in good standing, possess a valid driver’s license and be physically able to perform general unskilled manual labor. Students will be hired as seasonal employees in accordance with Town hiring practices. Applications are available at the Information Office at the Town Hall, 80 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.

Completed applications and evidence of current enrollment in an academic program are to be returned no later than May 30, 2008 to the Department of Public Works, 2050 Davisville Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
