Volunteers Welcome!

There are many opportunities for volunteers to be involved at the Center. Our volunteers come from a cross section of our community. They are housewives, college students, business people, retired persons, teachers or part time workers.

The wonderful thing about volunteering is that it brings so much satisfaction and camaraderie…to you and to those you help. If you’d like to volunteer, or have ideas for programs you could lead, we’d love to hear from you. It is a true joy to honor Joan McCabe as our Volunteer of the Year for 2010. Everyone thinks that Joan is paid staff at the senior center because of the countless hours she spends as our 'Volunteer' Volunteer Coordinator. Joan recruits and matches prospective volunteers to their assignments, as well as performing hours of volunteer service on her own. Her devotion to the center and her volunteers is evident to all. Congratulations Joan!

  Here are some areas where you can really help:

Meals on Wheels in North Kingstown desperately needs volunteer drivers. Both substitutes and regular drivers are needed (once every other week). Call Pat Fraher, Volunteer Coordinator, at 295-2887.

Senior Companion and Friendly Visitor Programs seeks Volunteers for North Kingstown. Call Beverly Hood, our Social Services Specialist (401) 294-3331 Ext: 405 bhood@northkingstown.org

Sea Breeze Dining needs volunteers to both help in the kitchen and serve meals. Please call Joan McCabe at 294-3331 Ext: 408 volunteer@northkingstown.org

SHO (Seniors Helping Others), a locally based RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) looks to place older persons in volunteer positions of all kinds. Call 789-2362 for more information.

FISH (Friends in Service to Humanity), an all volunteer community program that provides transportation to medical, social service and dental appointments, needs drivers and phone workers. Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed for gasoline. Call FISH at 295-1121.
