Davisville Neighborhood Revitalization Plan

In the Fall of 2000 the Town of North Kingstown partnered with Crossroads Rhode Island (formally known as Traveler’s Aid of Rhode Island) on a $44,600 planning grant from Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corporation to develop a revitalization plan for the Davisville neighborhood.   The Town's consultant, Community Opportunities Group, Inc. of Boston, developed the Davisville Neighborhood Revitalization Plan through a process of community meetings and individual interviews under the direction of the Town Planning Department.  The study was completed in January of 2002 and the Town Council held a special meeting to review the Plan in March of 2002.  The Plan implementation program targets Town budget and capital improvement programming, as well as other funding sources including Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) multi-year commitments.

The Davisville neighborhood as defined for the revitalization effort lies within Census Tract 501.03.  It includes all of block three (3), all of block four (4), approximately 20 - 25 homes in block five (5), and 57 units of transitional housing (Traveler’s Aid Crossroads) in block two (2). Block one (1) is outside our target area.

The Neighborhood Revitalization Plan Goals are as follows:

  1. Neighborhood Effectiveness:  Increase the political effectiveness of Davisville Neighborhood residents to influence decisions that affect their neighborhood.
  2. Neighborhood Ways and Pathways:  Improve vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle safety along perimeter roadways and the interior streets of Davisville Neighborhood
  3. Neighborhood Facilities:  Provide clean, safe, and attractive buildings, parks, and usable open space for the benefit of Davisville Neighborhood residents.
  4. Neighborhood Housing:  Preserve the traditional quality, affordability and character of housing stock in the Davisville Neighborhood.
  5. Neighborhood Services:  Improve Davisville Neighborhood’s access to governmental, civic, economic and social resources in North Kingstown.
