The following questions often asked of the Department of Planning and
Development are best answered for each individual property owner by contacting the
Planning Department directly at (401) 294-3331, Extension 311. The North Kingstown
Zoning Ordinance is available for review as part of this Web Page and the appropriate
sections of the ordinance are indicated at the end of each question.

What is the population of North
Kingstown?
Based on the US Census figures, the population of North Kingstown in
the year 2000 was 26,326 persons. This was up 1% from the 1990 population
of 23,786 persons.

What is the zoning for my property? May I work from my home?
May I have horses or other animals on my property? What are the
requirements for locating a fence on my property? What would the setback
requirements be if I wanted to add to my house or business? Is my property in
an aquifer or watershed zone? Is an in-law apartment allowed on my property?
These are all questions that
are best answered by calling the Planning Department at (401) 294-3331 ext. 311 and
providing us with your address and/or Assessor's Plat and Lot numbers.

Question 10 - Is my house in an historic
district? Am I subject to the rules and regulations of the North Kingstown Historic
District Commission?
North Kingstown has seven
National Register Historic Districts. The only local historic is the Wickford
Historic District. Section 21-331 through 21- 340 contains the zoning provisions
that apply in the local district. A list of the properties that are a part of the
Wickford Historic District is contained within Section 21- .

11 - When is the next meeting of
the Zoning Board of Review and/or the Planning Commission?
The North Kingstown
Planning
Commission meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month in the Town
Hall Conference Room, 80 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. The
Zoning Board of
Review meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the same location.
The agenda for both the
Planning
Commission and the
Zoning Board of
Review are posted at
least forty-eight hours prior to the meeting in the lobby of the North Kingstown Town
Hall, 80 Boston Neck Road and the North Kingstown Town Hall Annex, 55 Brown Street, North
Kingstown. Agendas will also be available on this Web Page for many of the Town's
Boards and Commissions.
