The
Town has adopted its
Hazard Mitigation Plan
for the purpose of enhancing quality of life, protecting property, and
preserving the resources of North Kingstown. The Town's
Hazard Mitigation Plan
identifies areas at risk from natural hazards
and outlines policies and actions that could be
taken to reduce the impacts of
natural hazards on the residents, properties, and natural resources of North
Kingstown. A
high priority is placed on protecting the safety of residents and visitors
alike.
Hazard
Mitigation is an ongoing process that will require continued implementation,
evaluation, and revision.
Local Hazard Mitigation Plans are required by the
Federal Emergency
Agency (FEMA). The Town received
approval from
FEMA in November of 2004.
At meetings held on April 19, 2005 and June 13,
2005, the North Kingstown Planning Commission and the North Kingstown Town
Council, respectively, adopted amendments to the
North Kingstown
Comprehensive Plan so as to adopt a
Hazard Mitigation Plan as a
component of the
Comprehensive Plan. The
amendments were developed and adopted in accordance with the
Rhode Island
Emergency Management Agency.
