The department's Street Sweeping program is underway.  Three sweepers are in operation daily, weather permitting and barring any mechanical breakdowns.  The town is divided into twelve districts, as with snow plowing, with a sweeper assigned to a district.  The sweeper will stay in the district until all streets are swept, taking two to three weeks on average to complete a district.  Once the district is completed, the sweeper will then move to the next district assigned.  It normally takes the department three full months to sweep all town maintained roads in North Kingstown.  It has been a long winter, with numerous storms requiring material to be put down on roadways.  The department understands the danger and inconvenience of thick sand along the edges of the roadway and we do our best to remove it as quickly as possible.  Remember, what takes up to 5 months to accumulate cannot disappear overnight; the department makes every effort to remove it in a three month time period.
