Background

The North Kingstown Senior Association (NKSA) was incorporated in 1971 and was soon after designated as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. The Association was instrumental in petitioning the Town to designate Beechwood House as the North Kingstown Senior Center.  After many hours of ‘hands on’ work, cleaning and sprucing up the building, Beechwood House became the town’s first senior center in 1975.

NKSA’s mission remains the same today as it did 38 years ago:

“The North Kingstown Senior Association has, since its inception, been dedicated to enhancing the social, recreational and educational opportunities for all North Kingstown seniors”

Ever since those early days, NKSA has played an active role in supporting center activities and programs. In 1975 the Town of North Kingstown assumed the governance of the senior center. Working together, the town and the association became a model of successful collaboration. The non-profit status of the Association made it possible for the Town to submit grants to private foundations for additional support, as well as financially supporting the programs offered by the Center.

The tireless work and dedication of the many active NKSA volunteers benefit North Kingstown’s older adults in countless ways. In addition to its annual contribution of almost $10,000 towards senior center programs and activities, NKSA consistently comes forward to help with special projects or needs. Examples are too numerous to fully list, but the motivation is singular… improving life for our community’s older adults and their families.

NKSA is running our major Senior Center capital campaign to supplement the $4 million in bonds approved by the voters of North Kingstown. To learn more, or make a donation, please visit Capital Campaign Update.

While programs and services at the North Kingstown Senior Center are available to

members and non-members alike at no or little charge, we encourage you to join

 the North Kingstown Senior Association.
