Social Services
In 2006 the Social Services department
at the North Kingstown Senior Center expanded their focus to address the
social service needs of all North Kingstown residents, regardless of age.
Services of the Town Welfare Department were transferred to North
Kingstown Social Services located at the North Kingstown Senior Center, 10 Beach
Street, North Kingstown. Requests for emergency. food and holiday assistance
are
handled by this department. Social Service staff can be
contacted by calling the same phone number (401) 294-3331 Extension 330 between
the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Please call for
appointments. Proof of income and residency may be necessary to qualify for certain programs
and services.

HOLIDAY GIVING PROGRAM
Adopting a
family in need is a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays. The Holiday Giving
Program is coordinated for the Town of North Kingstown by the Department of
Senior and Human Services. The ability of the town to meet the requests of
families in need depends upon the generosity of community donors. Families
in need should contact this town department beginning October 27th.
Thanksgiving
Holiday Baskets
Once again, the
NK Food Pantry will coordinate all requests and distribution of Thanksgiving
food baskets, as well as donations of grocery store gift cards and money.
Baskets of food are available for individuals and families in need. Anyone
requesting Thanksgiving Baskets will need to call the Food Pantry at 294-7608 as
soon as possible, no later than November 21st , If you wish to
donate grocery store gift certificates or money for the Thanksgiving dinners,
you may mail the certificates and checks to the NK Food Pantry, 450 Boston
Neck Road, NK, RI 02852.
Non-perishable
items for the NK Food Pantry are also needed and can be dropped off at: the NK
Chamber of Commerce, the Standard Times, NK Town Hall, NK Town Hall Annex, NK
Police Department, Wal-Mart, Dave’s Market on Tower Hill Road, and St. Paul’s
Episcopal, Wickford Baptist, United Methodist, and St. Bernard churches.

Holidays: Community partners are needed—individuals, families and
workplaces to “adopt” families in need. Donors will receive a family’s age and
gender appropriate “wish list” and can choose the size of the family they wish
to buy gifts for. “Donors from an office or other workplaces are ideal for large
families or to adopt more than one family. All personal information about both
donor and receiving families is strictly confidential. Families who wish
to adopt can contact us at their earliest convenience by calling 268-1579.
Ideally,
gifts should be dropped off, unwrapped, at Beechwood House by December 9th.
Donations of wrapping paper and gift certificates for groceries are also
welcome.
To participate
in the Holiday Giving Program, residents who wish to provide gifts for
children in need should contact North Kingstown Human Services as soon as
possible at 268-1579, weekdays from 9am-4pm.
For those
wishing to help without adopting a family, donations of gift certificates to
local stores can be mailed to DSHS, 10 Beach Street, NK, RI 02852 up until
December 22nd.
For people and
families needing assistance for holiday gifts for children (18 and younger) and
for Holiday Baskets, applications are available at Beechwood House. Food
baskets are available even if gifts are not needed. Families should apply as
soon as possible, no later than December 1st, so we can match their
requests with donors. For more information or to make an appointment to fill
out an application, call 268-1579 weekdays from 9am-4pm. Drop-ins are also
welcome. Adopted families will be notified of the time and place to pick up
their gifts.

a senior citizen who is alone or in need, please let us know so we can make sure
they enjoy a happy holiday,
